GPS not activating after restart
Unregistered

I just restarted the GW2Navi 2D overlay, and it does not offer the GPS option to me, and does not follow my character. I have verified that both Windows and Java are up to date, and ensured that GW2Navi is the current master. (Tested both from the git repo, and from a fresh download, to be sure.)

I also ran the app via java on the command line, but no helpful error messages were emitted. I'm not certain what else to do -- there was a GW2 patch today, prior to which navi was offering GPS, and it continued to GPS after that update.

Then, restart gw2navi, and no GPS is available. :( You learn how much you value something when it vanishes, I guess...

Make sure GPS options are enabled:
≡ > Options > Enable GPS
Posted Image > Character

Click on the map then type "/gps" and "/identity" do you see valid information printed?

Another user had their GPS not working, but I think they "fixed" it after restarting their computer.

You could try these overlays and see if their GPS system is working, since all overlays use Anet's Mumble Link system:
GW2PAO, GW2Taco, Tim's Tools
If those programs' character positioning works, then the fault is probably GW2Navi's.

GPS option is enabled. I can't set the GPS to track character: the icon for it does not show up! It's as if the website believes that I don't have the GPS mode enabled, but it's definitely on *and* definitely tracking my location.

http://imgur.com/a/2iyOj has the screenshots and annotations for this. Is there any way to see the developer tools, or a javascript console / error log for the embedded browser? I feel like it's maybe something crashing in trying to detect the GPS variables or whatever...

The GPS printout proves that the map is receiving position data and should be panning itself. You may be right that an error is preventing the script to continue normally.

The Chromium browser doesn't have a Developer Tools, but it can print out the console log which contains JavaScript errors. I've uploaded a new GW2Navi version, please download it. Use the overlay as you did before; click on the map and type "/trace", then access the overlay's console by:
≡ > About
The first dialog will show the normal About popup (should say version 2017.05.20). If the browser had error logged, there will be a second dialog after the About popup; please copy and paste the console text here if you see it.

OK, so... turns out it wasn't a JavaScript error. For whatever reason my browser was hitting "http://gw2timer.com/", and I was able to get the navigation back by manually updating that to "http://gw2timer.com/?mode=Overlay".

I'm really, really not sure what happened there, but ... I guess it's fixed, maybe?

It might be worth having something check if the mode is not overlay, but the site seems to be running in the overlay browser and/or exporting the GPS position values, or something?

Either way, I know what to look for next time, and I have navigation back, so yay?

You probably had the "Last Visited" option checked, which was bugged because it didn't use the overlay mode suffix as you said. I uploaded another new version; this has the Console Log added to the ≡ menu, and if you're using the 3D version you can now set both the focused/unfocused opacities.

The "?mode=Overlay" is the only check for the website to execute the map's GPS function. I made sure that query string is always in the URL regardless of where you navigate on the website. It was a mistake that the overlay (not the website) didn't store the last visited URL properly when exiting. Open up options.ini and you should see:
Code:

URL_HOMEPAGE = http://gw2timer.com/?mode=Overlay
URL_PROJECTION = http://gw2timer.com/?mode=Projection
URL_LASTVISITED = http://gw2timer.com/?mode=Overlay

Thanks for reporting.
